"Newspeak" was the official language of the state in George Orwell's celebrated novel, 1984. The purpose of Newspeak was to make all other modes of thought impossible, as well as to provide a medium of expression proper to the devotees of the Party. It facilitated the process of "Doublethink," the ability to hold two contradictory beliefs simultaneously and accept them both.
