Then Ragnar with a faltering voice replied,“Forgive me wond'rous man,
If aught in anger I have said
Thy bosom to offend,
For curses light upon the head
Of him who wounds his friend.
Such thou hast been to me,
And yet I knew it not;
But pardon my infirmity
And let it be forgot.
I love thee thou old man!
May blessings light upon thy head,

Nor one of Elfin birth;
But a maiden bright and fair,
A lovely child of earth.
