THE Power of GOLD.
The Fair are soonest pierc'd with golden Darts,The King of Diamonds is their King of Hearts;
Where Merit fails there MONEY does bewitch,
For 'tis sufficient Merit to be rich.
Beauty was purchas'd by Desert of old,
But now, alas! 'tis bought with sordid Gold.
