Epig. XIX. In nigrum

I prethe Niger leaue to play the Ape,
In this quaint age, Chaucers misconstru'd iape
Is not so sordid, as each common iest
Which thou dost parbreake; thou art growne a guest
Most cumbersome to friends, thy iests are gall,
Yet rather then loose one, thou'lt loose them all;
But Niger take good heed, least with some friend,
Thou iest away thy wit, too in th' end.
