And Wit, had prov'd a sure Defence
Against the Darts of conquering Death,
Maria had not yielded Breath.
—Ye fair ones, tremble at the News—
Since she, so worthy of the Muse,

—How shall ye scape the gaping Grave?
How leave an everlasting Name,
Unless, like Her, ye merit Fame?
—But, ere appears, among your Kind,
Her Match, in Person and in Mind,
The Marble Monuments shall break,
And she, with Charms immortal, wake.
