Anon as clarel ham syȝ,
He seide, “oure enemys beþ nyȝ,
Ich se bi here cuntenaunse,
Þei beþ cristene men of fraunce.
Charles ost liþ here bi-side,
In pauilons bataille to bide,
& þese beþ of hise men, i-wis,
Þerfore mi reed is þis,
Þat we hasteliche to ham ride,
& loke wheþer þei wole abide.”
