THE SHADOW.
She was so good, we thought before she died
To see new glory on her path descend;
And could not tell, till she has gone inside,
Why there was darkness at her journey's end.
To see new glory on her path descend;
And could not tell, till she has gone inside,
Why there was darkness at her journey's end.
And then we saw that she had stood, of late,
So near the entrance to that holy place,
That, from the Eternal City's open gate,
The awful shadow fell across her face.
So near the entrance to that holy place,
That, from the Eternal City's open gate,
The awful shadow fell across her face.
