'Tis evening. The last sunbeams playWithin the chapel rich;
Each pillar touch with golden ray,
Light every arch's pointed way,
And with a glory, proudly gay,
Crown each rude saint in fretted nich.

The lovely boy is laid;
And gold and sculptur'd store combin'd
In rich and wild profusion join'd,
To honor the lov'd infant dead:
But not in tomb or sculptur'd art;
His shrine is in his mother's heart.
