“Merida, thou didst view the Queen,While captive to the Moor;
Is't sudden, this wild frantic mien?
Was she thus cold before?
Merida, speak! Hast thou forgot

Without the gates, she join'd our power.”

From me, through each successive day,
Haughty and cold, she turn'd away;
From me, from all; save Inez fair,
And one young page, of beauty rare,
Whom freed from Moorish chains we bare.”
