Euphrenia or the Test of Love

A poem by William Sharp

expand section

III.

Beneath the shadow of the wood
Two forms are faintly seen;
A nearer view proclaims the one
A youth of noble mien;
And standing by him is a maid,
Whose face and form might vie
With any traced by limner's hand,
Or sung by minstrelsie:
The encircled waist, the resting head
The hour, the spot declare
That these are votaries of love,
That seek a refuge there.
