ON A JOURNEY.

Jesus be mercifully nigh
In danger's trying hour,
And let our feebleness rely
On Thy almighty power.

268

Before us in the desert go,
And guard on every side,
And give our faithful souls to know
Their everlasting Guide.
Our tutelary Rock, extend
Thy cool refreshing shade,
From every threatening ill defend,
And screen Thy people's head.
Give us in our dejected state
Thy present help to find,
Nor let the weary body's weight
Press down the' immortal mind.
Thee may we every moment see
Pursuing and pursued,
And drink the streams that flow from Thee,
And feel our strength renew'd.
