Good First Half

Most of Helman's running
against State came in the first half
when he led the way to Virginia's
first two drives. On Virginia's first
offensive play he took a screen pass
15 yards, which was instrumental in
setting up Jim Carrington's 37-yard
field goal.

When the Wahoos got the ball
back minutes later at their own
four yard line, Helman ran up the
right sideline for 22 yards to start a
96-yard drive which ended in a
Cavalier touchdown.

In the unsuccessful comeback
try in the fourth quarter Helman
was instrumental, scoring the lone
touchdown, and catching a pass
which took the Cavaliers to the 19
yard line with 29 seconds left,
before an interception on the next
play killed the Wahoo hopes.

The 5-11, 196-pound Helman is
a junior from Youngwood, Pa.
