Fab. LIII. The Thrushes.
A Numerous flock of Thrushes passd the Alps,
To feast upon the Grapes of Lombardy,
Whereof some few returning fat, and plump,
Were envied by the rest that stayd behind.
They cursd their Fate, their Cowardise, and Sloth,
Which made them lose their share in that rich prey.
To whom, one of these Travellers replyd,
Youd change your minds and pity us, did you know
How many thousands of us made this Voyage,
And to what paucity we are reduc'd,
The rest being taken Prisoners, Maimd, or Killd.
