Maryland Has McMillen

Maryland's Lefty Driesell had
perhaps the most successful
recruiting program in the ACC
landing not only everybody's "next
Alcindor." Tom McMillen (6-11) in
a last minute power play from
North Carolina, but also 6-11
Mark Cartwright, and fellow
All-Americans 6-9 Lon Elmore and
6-4 Japeth Trimble, both from
Alcindor's Power Memorial in New
York. UNC ended up with the
tallest prospect in the nation in 7-4
Tom Burieson from Newland, N.C.
as well as 6-9 Bobby Jones of
Charlotte.

Duke has welcomed 6-8 Chris
Redding from D.C. and Dave
Elmer, a 6-9 Fort Wayne, Indiana
star into the Blue Devil fold. Four
of Duke's scholarship players are
tailer than 6-6. South Carolina has
added New York's Brian Winters to
its All-Empire State lineup and
Wake Forest managed only one
blue chip signing in guard Bob
Dryer of Silver Spring, Maryland.
The Deacons are counting on two
junior college stars to pick up the
slack in the program.
