[Saved by faith we once have been]
We are saved by hope.
—viii. 24.
Saved by faith we once have been
From the guilt and power of sin,
But while the dire root remains,
Hope our fainting soul sustains:
Tempted to give up our shield,
Saved by hope we cannot yield,
Saved by hope, we wait to prove
All the holiness of love.
