The early poems of John Clare | ||
[As I wanderd oer the irish hills]
As I wanderd oer the irish hillsTo a farmers house I came
The night being wet & somthing late
I enterd in the same
Till I became a courter
With a bonny girl I spied
She asked me if I had a wife
& my marriage I denied
590
& part of the next day
Till smilingly she said to me
With you I gang away
For Ireland is a bonny place
& bonny men there in
So I will gang along with you
The world for to begin
