Inscription in the Carters Hall in Leith.

Great God, whose potent arm does drive the sun,
Thee Carters bless whilst wheels of time shall run:
Of old they drove thy sacred ark, O God,
Guide thou their hands and steps in every road.
Protect this house they dedicate to thee,
Increase and sanctify their charity.
Thy blessing, Lord, be its foundation-stone,
And they'll ascribe the praise to thee alone.
