The Theater of Fine Devices | ||
EMBLEME II.
Ven'rie and drinke do now and then
Besot some of the wisest men.
We reade when Bacchus faire dame Venus met,
Besot some of the wisest men.
They two together walked forth in chase,
Forthwith their engines and their snares they set
T'intrap the next that should come in the place:
And straight Minerua taken in the net,
Was holden prisoner in a wofull case.
By which is shewne, as we may plaine perceiue
That wine and women wisest folke deceiue.
