Personal correspondence of this Albemarle County resident and his family. Much of the correspondence was during the Civil War years and contains many references to slaves. A December 17, 1864, letter mentions that Edmonia had run away to the Yankees with household goods; a July 2, 1863, letter mentions the effect of the escape of a slave named Henry on the rest of the slaves; a letter of July 2, 1863, describes Henry's capture and the resolve to sell him south.
