ODE VII.

Possess but faith, 'twill move a mountain;
Thus says the Bible, the great fountain,
The sacred fountain of immortal truth.
There are who say that Billy Pitt
In this dear war has shown his wit—
Lord! what a statesman!—what a clever youth!
Keen as the keenest eagle's view,
There's nothing that he cannot do.
Yes, have a portion of credulity,
And claw a pyramid, you'll pull it t'ye.
Credulity's a pretty sand
To blind the people of the land:
O yes, it blinds weak women, and weak men,
Much like the sand that boys, in fun,
Fire from an engine called a gun,
To knock down a poor humming-bird, or wren.
