Oculus Britanniae An Heroi-Panegyrical poem on the University of Oxford. Illustrated with divers beautiful Similes, and useful Digressions [by Nicholas Amhurst] |
Oculus Britanniae | ||
Our stately rising buildings set to view,
Say how we furbish old and model new,
Our theatres, musæums, printing domes,
And libraries replete with folio tomes,
Our greasy kitchens and large halls extol,
And vaulted cellars stor'd with double Coll,
Our tow'ring steeples, painful to behold,
Our roaring bells, and altars daub'd with gold;
Say how our stables charm the jocky's eyes,
And bog-houses like palaces arise.
Say how we furbish old and model new,
Our theatres, musæums, printing domes,
And libraries replete with folio tomes,
Our greasy kitchens and large halls extol,
And vaulted cellars stor'd with double Coll,
Our tow'ring steeples, painful to behold,
Our roaring bells, and altars daub'd with gold;
44
And bog-houses like palaces arise.
