Midnight Report
Hourly news wrap-ups are aired
by WUVA along with in-depth news
coverage. The "Midnight Report"
presents a comprehensive round-up
of the day's national, state, and
local events in addition to detailed
reports concerning University news,
sports, and weather. Mike Cascio,
WUVA's Director of News and
Public Affairs, has promised "more
and better University news" along
with more student-oriented world
news reporting.
"Outlook," a daily commentary
show and "Colonnade," a weekly
interview show aired Sundays at 7
p.m., provide controversial
commentary for WUVA listeners.
On Sunday, September 19, Heary
Howell, Independent candidate for
Lieutenant Governor, will serve as
"Colonnade's" first guest.
University President Edgar Shannon
will be interviewed by Peter Daly
on September 26.
Sports events are reviewed in the
"Midnight Report," with more
brief reports given during the day.
All sports are covered by WUVA,
with reports during and summaries
following all Virginia football and
basketball games.
Plans for a possible expansion of
coverage to the entire Central
Virginia region are being prepared.
Attempts are also being made to
gain full-time "open air" status.
The final decision now awaits the
approval of the Federal
Communications Commission. If its
license is granted, WUVA will be
allowed to broadcast 24 hours a
day on one of the few student AM
frequencies in the nation. The
decision should be made within the
next month. Bob Hagan, President
of WUVA, stated that, "Our
lawyers say we have a better than
even chance."
