AUTHORIZATION FOR EXECUTION OF DESIGN-BUILD CONTRACT FOR SPRIGG
LANE STUDENT HOUSING PROJECT

The President advised the Board that he has received a letter from the Albemarle Garden Club expressing concern about the preservation of the plantings at Morea. He said that the project will be studied further and an effort will be made to change the site of the building by 20 feet in order to save the trees. He stated that no further buildings are to be erected on the site, and that no parking (except for a small number of places for the handicapped) will be provided on the site.

The following resolution was adopted:

  • RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that the proposal of Heindl-Evans, Inc., of Mechanicsville, Virginia, be, and it hereby is, accepted for the designbuild project for student housing to be constructed on the Sprigg Lane site; and
  • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the appropriate officers be, and they hereby are, authorized to execute the necessary contract on the Commonwealth of Virginia Form of Agreement for Design-Build Construction in the amount of $1,499,700 with Heindl-Evans, Inc., subject to the approval of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
