TO MYRTILLA.

THE NEST.

As in the glowing noon of day,
Stretch'd careless on the ground,
Beneath the breezy pines I lay,
Lull'd by their murm'ring sound:
A little nest aloft I spy'd,
Of feathers white as snow,
With strong, tho' slender, cordage ty'd
Fast to the top-most bough.
With eager haste I seiz'd the prize,
And found a beauteous pair:
Love yet unfledg'd with friendship lies,
Together nestling there.
Delia my captive, love detains
In Hymen's silken clue;
Friendship, Myrtilla, yet remains
An off'ring fit for you.
