Deep Purple Turns Yellow

Deep Purple, the headlining
English hard rock group which
kicked off its most recent U.S. tour
October 22 at New York's Felt
Forum, has been forced to
terminate the tour after completing
only three of its twenty-five dates
due to the illness of the group's lead
singer, Ian Gillan.

Playing before a packed house,
remaining group members Jon
Lord, Richie Blackmore, Ian Paice
and Roger Glover performed in a
lengthy instrumental jam to
standing ovations, fulfilling
contractual obligations.

Gillan, who performed with the
group at both the Forum, October
22, and William and Mary College,
October 23, fell ill upon arriving in
Chicago to headline at the
Auditorium Theatre on October 24.

Hepatitis

Gillan, currently hospitalized
for hepatitis in Chicago, will follow
the group home to England later
next week, where their tour will be
re-scheduled by American Talent
International upon his recovery.
