I

A year ago, thy cheek was bright
As oleander buds that break
The dark of yonder dells by night
Above the lamplit lake.

II

Pale as a snow drop in Cashmere
Thy face to night, fair infant, seems.
Ah, wretched child! what do'st thou hear
When I talk in my dreams?—
