[More precious than the gold and gems]

More precious than the gold and gems
That shine in earthly diadems,
The thorns of Jesu's crown
Stain'd with the blood of God, they pay
The debt of all mankind, and lay
The general ransom down.
A rich inheritance they buy,
Eternal mansions in the sky
For Adam's favour'd race:
And every ransom'd soul with me
By faith Thy mangled form may see,
And then Thy glorious face.
