HYMN CXLVII.

[Jesu, to Thee in faith we look]

Jesu, to Thee in faith we look;
O that our services might rise
Perfumed and mingled with the smoke
Of Thy sweet-smelling sacrifice.
Thy sacrifice with heavenly powers
Replete, all holy, all Divine;
Human and weak, and sinful ours:
How can the two oblations join?
Thy offering doth to ours impart
Its righteousness and saving grace,
While charged with all our sins Thou art,
To death devoted in our place.
Our mean imperfect sacrifice
On Thine is as a burden thrown;
Both in a common flame arise,
And both in God's account are one.
