CHAPTER XIII. The poetical works of John and Charles Wesley | ||
2072.
[Jesus must first for Peter die]
Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down, &c.
—xiii. 38.
Jesus must first for Peter die,
And purchase the courageous grace,
Must His own Godhead testify
That Peter may his Lord confess:
The Son of God, the martyrs' Head
Doth power for His disciples claim,
And gives us, dying in our stead,
The strength to suffer for His name.
