[Who the work of God oppose]

The Jews did not believe . . . that he had been, &c. —ix. 18, 19.

Who the work of God oppose,
Through obstinate despite,
Every avenue they close
Against the hateful light;
Pharisees the truth to shun
Unwearied pains and trouble take;
Doubting if the thing were done,
They it undoubted make.
