CHAPTER VIII. The poetical works of John and Charles Wesley | ||
1878.
[The truth Thou say'st, the Truth Thou art]
If I say the truth, why do ye not believe Me?
—viii. 46.
The truth Thou say'st, the Truth Thou art:
Why do I not believe in Thee?
Do I not, Lord, desire to part
With all my sin and misery?
Some secret ill, some bar unknown,
Some idol must obstruct my will:
O speak and take away the stone,
And pardon on my conscience seal.
