A Silver Night

The silver shield of heaven all night
Defend thee, love, and be thy light;
And all the wakeful starry eyes
Keep watch above thee till day rise!
The idly wandering winds, that blow
Up to thy casement, thence shall go
More solemn with such joy to bear
Adown the silver-dusted air.
Till all the pine-tree tongues shall move
To syllable thy name of love,
And pass in whispers on to me
The wind-borne wonder-tale of thee.
