[O for that cheering light]

He that followeth Me shall . . . have the light, &c. —viii. 12.

O for that cheering light,
That Light of life within,
Which scatters all the shades of night,
The hellish gloom of sin!
Jesus Thyself impart,
Light of the world, remove
This unbelief, and fill my heart
With all the life of love.
Resolved, I follow Thee,
Till Thou Thy love reveal

In feeble faith's obscurity,
My deadly darkness feel;
Believing against hope,
The promise I embrace,
And I shall soon be lifted up,
And I shall see Thy face.
