OH! WEEP NOT FOR THE DEAD.

I

Oh! weep for him whose peace is gone,
Whose toilsome hours and days pass on
Amid the dark and fearful strife,
The agony of mortal life.
Ah! weep not for the dead.

II

Weep for the lone heart's burning tears,
Its wild despair—its fever'd years,—
That dim sepulchral urn whose light
Is quench'd in hope's eternal night.
Ah! weep not for the dead.

III

Their storm of life is passed away,
Their spirit has a purer day;
Safe landed on th' eternal shore,
No tears may dew their eye-lids more.
Ah! weep not for the dead.
