INCREASE IN STUDENT FEES
The 1970 General Assembly provided little improvement for operating funds for the College for the 1970-72 biennium. The funds appropriated for 1970-71 are actually less than the budgeted level of expenditures for the educational program for 1969-70. It was necessary, therefore, to provide additional funds by increasing student fees. While the Legislature was in session we had a request from the Appropriations Committee to provide them with an estimated adjustment in fees for the 1970-72 biennium, subject to approval of the Board of Visitors. The special fund revenues in the Appropriation Act were increased by the estimate which we furnished them. We proposed an increase of $50.00 for all students and $55.00 for Non-Virginia students. These funds were needed in order to provide a one step increase in salary for the faculty. An additional $10.00 increase in General College Fees was proposed in order to provide an additional $100.00 for all members of the faculty.
The adjustment in fees permits an increase of $500.00 for Professors and Associate Professors, and $400.00 for Assistant Instructors, Instructors, and Assistant Professors.
This matter was discussed with the Mary Washington Committee at the April meeting.
The following resolution was adopted:
- RESOLVED by The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia that Mary Washington College be and it is hereby authorized to adjust the student fees, effective September 1970, as shown below:
