prerequisite.—1. Chaucer and mediaeval humor: The Canterbury Tales and
other literature from the middle ages. 2. Elizabethan literature. 3. Certain
Restoration and eighteenth-century comedies and novels. Lectures, collateral
reading, and the study of the texts. In the literature of the mediaeval
period some works will be read in the original and some in translation.

Current usage in composition: a study of thought expression and the correct
use of English, with reading in current prose and frequent written exercises.
2. Exposition and narration: a continuation of the course in general
composition, with emphasis on the writing of clear reports and narratives.
3. Special kinds of writing; application of the principles studied thus
far to more specialized writing; descriptive narratives, reviews, and the
