FRANCE, August 10, 1768. “When LOUIS XVI. was at Rouen, he walked from the Cathedral to the Bridge, to see the Method of opening and shutting it.—On that Occasion his Majesty was surrounded by an immense Multitude, who made the Air ring with continued Shouts of Vive le Roi! when the King raised his Hands towards Heaven, while the Tears of Sympathy trembled in his Eyes, Vive mon Peuple! Vive mon Peuple! To perpetuate the Memory of this Event, the Inhabitants of Rouen have determined to erect a Statue of LOUIS XVI. in the Attitude of answering the Prayers of his People.”—Behold the affecting Vicissitude of HUMAN GLORY!
