Staff Member Hired

Mr. Elwood noted that following
recommendations of the Education and
Employment Opportunities, Obligations
and Rights committee in 1969, a full-time
Black admissions staff member,
Elizabeth Johnson, was hired as well as
several Black students on a part-time basis
to assist in recruiting.

Increased visitation to high schools
throughout the state for Black
recruitment as well as periodic state-wide
conferences with guidance counselors
have also begun, according to Mr.
Elwood.

Mr. Fishback stated that enrollment
figures released yesterday show that 344
Black students are enrolled at the
University this year, an increase of 98
from last year. Seventy-one Blacks were
enrolled in 1967.
