RESOLUTION ON RESTORATION OF FACULTY COMPENSATION
The following resolution was adopted:
- WHEREAS, the maintenance of excellence in higher education is a necessary component of the Commonwealth's future social and economic well being; and
- WHEREAS, the Board of Visitors recognizes the need to attract and retain an outstanding faculty to permit the University to continue its quest for academic excellence in the pursuit of knowledge; and
- WHEREAS, the Board of Visitors is concerned that faculty compensation, including salary and retirement benefits, has suffered because of recent economic conditions;
- NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that The Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia strongly recommend that in the process of recovery from the current recession, the Commonwealth of Virginia permit restoration of the faculty compensation cuts caused by the recession and appropriate sufficient additional funds to permit the University to continue to attract and retain an outstanding group of teachers and scholars.
On motion, the meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
