A CONFIDENCE

That which you seek for in your heart of hearts—
That which transcends both Nature and the Arts—
Great beyond conscious grasp of human mind,
But ever as the rest and goal
Acknowledged by your secret soul—
Brother, I promise, you shall surely find.

77

And if you ask me—knowing it so great—
The solid ground on which I dare to state
That you shall certainly attain at length;
Learn that beyond the things which seem
I have divined your dream,
And also know your hidden source of strength.
Have courage, therefore! Keep your daily road,
And after your own individual mode
Do that which comes to hand—the good, the true;
For failures sometimes made—as such—
Be not concern'd too much;
Fear not yourself—I have no fear for you.
