1574.

[He dies—a death of pain and shame]

They crucified Him, and the malefactors, &c. —xxiii. 33.

He dies—a death of pain and shame,
To the vile death of slaves submits,
And thus the humble patient Lamb
His own great sacrifice completes!

302

The universal sin He bears,
Conquers the world, and death, and hell,
And balm in His own blood prepares
The wounds of all mankind to heal.
