But I perceive, you frown upon my lays,
And sullenly reject the proffer'd praise,
Content to wither in obscure retreat,
And unobserv'd, in plenty drink and eat,
O'er aukward college pedants to preside,
With private grandeur and monastick pride,
In indolence and ease to live unknown,
And nod, like eastern tyrants on their throne.
