If thou wilt learn, my Soul, how to endure,
With patience, thy afflictions, be thou sure,
That when the hand of angry Heav'n shall smite,
Thou dost not grumble like the Israelite.
Strive thou for patience, heav'n wil teach thee how
To bear affliction with a cheerful brow.
