FROM ANACREON.
ON WOMAN.
Dame NATURE, from her store, so kind,
To bulls, the guarding horns assign'd,
And arm'd with hoofs the bounding steed;
Teeth to the lion's jaw she gave;
Fins to the tenant of the wave;
And cloath'd the little hare with speed.

But what should Nature grant the fair?
Grant!—Beauty's fascinating air:
With this the charmer takes the field,
And bids the world to woman yield.
