74

Upon my Honoured Friend and F. Mr. Ben. Johnson.

And is thy Glass run out? is that Oyl spent
Which light to such strong sinewy labours lent?
Well Ben, I now perceive that all the Nine,
Though they their utmost forces shold combine,
Cannot prevail 'gainst Nights three Daughters, but
One still must spin, one twist, the other cut:
Yet in despight of Distaff, Clue, and Knife,
Thou in thy strenuous Lines hast got a Life;
Which like thy Bays shall flourish evry Age
While Sock or Buskin shall ascend the Stage.
