No sooner I possest the Royall Throne,
But true Religion straight was dispossest:
Bad Councell caus'd Rome, Spaine and I, as one,
To persecute, to martyr, and molest
All that the vnstain'd truth of God profest:
All such as dar'd oppugne the pow'rfull Pope,
With grieuous tortures were opprest and prest,
With Axes, Fire, and Faggot, and the Rope.
Scarce any Land beneath the Heau'nly Cope,
