XLVIII.
He ceased with shrill and mocking laugh,And triumph in his eye,
As round the room he boldly looked
For one who should reply;
The Spirit of “the Book” remained,
But deigned no further word,
Though, from his steadfast, meaning look,
Contempt might be inferred;

Their sacred armour don,
And only differ as to who
Shall lead their forces on.
