by Bishop William Meade attests to the fact that
his wife before her death wished part of her estate to be used for "The
Welfare of The African race" and a November 22,
1884, letter from C. L. C. Minor at
Winchester comments on the trial of two blacks
for killing a white man and the mood of the community for a lynching if the
verdict was not death.
