Meantime, another attribute of mind
Residing in the senate, claims thy care;
'Tis passion! But 'tis passion so subdued—
So soften'd by the manners, that it seems
All coldness to the fire of Athens' chiefs—
To her alert vivacity, which glow'd
Amidst her Areopagus—the soul
Of sensibilities awaken'd wild
To action, rapid action unconstrain'd!
