CHAPTER VI. The poetical works of John and Charles Wesley | ||
901.
[See the hypocrite profane]
For his oath's sake, and for their sakes, &c.
—vi. 26, 27.
See the hypocrite profane,
Satan's superstitious tool,
God defies through fear of man,
Dares not let his passion cool,
Scrupulously he keeps his word;
(Such the fruit that honour brings!)
Slays a prophet of the Lord;
Such the gratitude of kings!
